New Faces, Lab Progress & Poultry Care: Summer Updates from Avivets

We are pleased to share some exciting updates, including progress on our laboratory, a highlight from our recent broiler event, and a timely reminder about supporting poultry health during the warmer months.

Team Spotlight: Welcoming Silvio De Luca

We're delighted to welcome veterinary surgeon Silvio De Luca to our team at Mere View, Cheshire. Silvio graduated from the University of Perugia in 2012 and went on to complete a PhD focused on antimicrobial resistance in pig farms across Italy and Switzerland.

He has held research roles at Ghent University in Belgium—studying gut health in poultry—and the University of Parma, where he worked on animal welfare indicators in abattoirs. Silvio also spent time in the UK as a Veterinary Meat Hygiene Inspector and, more recently, as an Export Official Veterinarian before joining Avivets in March 2025.

His key interests include animal welfare, food safety, and poultry diseases.

Outside of work, Silvio enjoys playing football, practicing archery, and travelling with his wife Erika. At home, he shares his space with three much-loved cats.

Avilabs Laboratory Progress & Upcoming Open Day

The laboratory build is progressing well, and we are excited to announce that we will be hosting an open day this autumn. This event will provide you with the opportunity to see the lab’s development firsthand and learn more about the diagnostic services we will soon offer. Work is well underway toward achieving accreditation for Salmonella testing, which we aim to have in place by 2026. We look forward to sharing further updates and welcoming you to our open day on 8th October.

The event will be held at our laboratory at Rodenhurst Business Park, Rodington, Shrewsbury, SY4 4QU, from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. You’ll have the opportunity to look around and see what we have to offer.

If you would like to book a place or register your interest, please contact zoe.hatton@avivets.com

Avivets Broiler Event at Tern Hill Hall – A Day of Insight and Innovation

In June, we were delighted to host a successful Avivets Broiler Event at the beautiful Tern Hill Hall. It was fantastic to welcome so many attendees and share valuable insights through engaging discussions and expert presentations.

Event Highlights:

  • An in-depth look at the optimal use of the CEVA Gumboro vaccine to help producers maximise flock health and performance.

  • The official announcement of Avilabs—Avivets’ own laboratory, now progressing toward Salmonella testing accreditation within the next 12 months.

  • Updates on our latest service developments, aimed at further supporting poultry clients across the UK.

We sincerely thank everyone who joined us and contributed to making the event such a success. We look forward to building on these insights and continuing our collaboration in the months ahead.
